One of the things I pride myself on is my positivity, y’all know that one of my new year’s resolutions was to have a more positive outlook on life. With only 6 months left of 2019, and after some reflection I know that I have done a good job so far at this!
YALL I definitely human though, and still have my negative Nancy moments. But I wanted to share a couple tricks that I have been using when I see myself only looking at the negative sides of things. And trust me, these tricks can literally be used with literally anything.
The first trick is taking something you’re struggling with or having a hard time ‘seeing the silver lining’ with and asking yourself “What If things work out?” or “What if all my hard work pays off?” I promise these questions will almost force you to think positively about whatever situation you’re struggling with.
The second little trick that really helps me is the 5 by 5 rule, “If it’s not going to matter in 5 years, don’t spend more than 5 minutes being upset by it.” Y’all don’t even understand how often I use this; if I’m aggravated in traffic? If I’m upset at work, or got in an argument with Ben (sorry babe)!!!!
It truly is such a powerful quote because once you take a second and realize that what you were freaking out about literally won’t matter in 24 hours never mind 5 years, and it helps bring me back to earth so quicker!!
So next time you’re getting screaming at by someone in traffic next to you on the highway- take a deep breath – think” 5 by 5″ This random person who’s flipping me off is not going to matter in 5 years, put a smile on your self and enjoy that little moment of peace!!! ‘
